so after a great many debates, here is what i am seeing.

there are 4 types of people responding.

1. the hard working artist agrees, they understand the time they have put into it, and in turn they are seeing the improvement they desire. they study the right things, like life, to understand how things work. they fight being completely self indulgent 100% of the time so they can better learn the skills they need.

2. the casual artist who doesnt really agree because they see somebody better, they are happy with what they can do and know they can be better, but they compare themselves to others too often.

3. the lazy fuck that thinks they must not be talented because they dont put in much time. and since they are so frustrated with seeing how great others are, they must not be talented while the other person is.

4. the people who see some little kid copy a drawing and imagine that they must be some kind of naturally born incredible artist. most of these people arent much beyond a part time hobby artist. fact, it isnt as hard to copy something line for line when you have it next to you.

so in follow up (this is mostly for #2 -4 people)

you have to study the right things. look at photos, draw from life, sit in the park with a sketchbook or draw your friend while they play video games. no amount of drawing and drawing from your head is ever going to show you much return in improvement. for example if you're studying latin to learn french, you are probably not going to learn much, if any, french, right? wouldnt you read that last sentence and go....DUH!?

so stop making excuses and study like you mean it, or shut the fuck up. sorry to be blunt, but its obvious you are frustrated, and that doesnt mean some magical talent exists and you just dont have it.

now im willing to admit a person can be born with better cognition, or hand eye coordination, or observational skills, or better focus, greater passion. call any of these things talent. but be honest with yourself.

and if anything

TL;DR dont belitte those of us that have worked our asses off by saying we were born with some innate ability or talent for art. feel free to disagree with me, i can respect that but please dont insult me. okay im done now XD

One thing I'll add about studying the right things: Take a life drawing class, it'll do wonders (if you take it seriously and earnestly try to improve).
