sooooo, here it finally is after about 20 hours of work. yikes, i wonder if thats going to be the new standard for them?
anyways, the drawing took 7 hours, the rest of that 20 is painting.
i started this piece with many expectations and funny ideas, and in the end i just went with a single figure. i suppose some of you will look down on referencing another painting so closely, but i used this one [link]
Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David, 1801.
at first i started with something more original (lol) with my own poses, but in the end i had such a purely specific piece in mind i just went with it. afterall, that particular painting gave me the idea to do one in the first place.
i went into this whole thing with a very light heart and open mind, as the idea still makes me giggle. it turned into something more serious when i was trying to make it the best it could be i suppose, but i still dont regret using so close a reference because it was never taken seriously. not like i'm trying to hide it anyways
so, i used quite a bit of ref also for the costume, and the gun, but drawing the costume from a different view was quite challenging for me.
anyways, thats about all i have to gab about.
if you dont know who adam ant is, youtube him. he is so fucking cool
Hey, I know you probably hate me but if he has his pistol, he should have his mirror. After all that's what Stand and Deliver was all about, how vain people were, and could be so easily distracted by their own appearance.
It looks AMAZING. But I'm terribly pedantic, Adam's in the Prince Charming get-up with the Kings of the Wild Frontier/Dandy Highwayman make-up. Was this just to show all the main different eras, or just a mistake??
And anyway, that's not an excuse, I'm sorry as a painting it's amazing, but you know, it's the wrong costume, maybe it would of worked with the dandy highwayman costume and the Prince Charming makeup. Coz then he's in the right attire to go horse riding...
i did exactly as i intended, people arent around to make fanarts that cater to every fanboys nitpicky whims. i picked the outfit i thought personally fit best for the idea with styles and most importantly colors, and the one i could find the best reference on. as clearly none of his costumes fit just exactly, i went with what I WANTED.
feel free to disagree but for godssake dont fuckin nag me to death and back about it.
if you havent seen the extremely well known painting of napoleon, look it up. and if you dont know what the definition of parody is, i suggest you look that up also, just because i didnt actually say the word parody doesnt mean i didnt intend, or express that intention. and i think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find the next guy who didnt find this fairly obvious.
I know what parody means, it's like a copy of someone's work but slighty adjusted, normally for "comedy" porposes - like The Hunger Games Parody ("She won the trip to Aruba!") And I didn't really "nag you to death" You should see my rant about Sarah Sands!:->
Plus it's my opinion, you want Prince Charming, and I want a true representation of Adam Ant's Dandy Highwayman character. I guess like this [link]
I mean the whole "Stand and Deliver" song and video was about vanity, people's image, people's opinions of themselves! So if I was doing something like this (not that I can paint like that!) I would think the clothes and the whole image of Adam was important.
But anyway I'm meant to be doing homework! Ta-ta!:->
